World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman predicts that the megafight between WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and WBC Interim champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin will land in just the right spot at exactly the right time.
At the WBC weekly press conference, Mauricio described the much-anticipated meetings of minds and might, as one of the greatest fights ever, in prospect.
Many fans bemoaned the six years it took to finally get Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao to share a boxing ring. Would the Marvelous Marvin Hagler Vs Sugar Ray Leonard encounter have been even more thrilling, if it had occurred before Ray’s first so called retirement?
Mauricio confirms that current indications all point to Canelo and GGG, not suffering any undue time lag, shaping up and jetting towards a date with destiny between this September and November.
As for firing on all cylinders zeniths, Mauricio stresses: “Only the passage of time can tell what was an individual career peak, but both Canelo and Gennady seem to be in absolutely great moments, in their respective careers.”
Canelo is the absolute champion, while Gennady is the Interim champion. But Mauricio pointed out: “Well the Champion is the Champion, but Gennady certainly has all the merits to be a fifty fifty participant in this fight.”
