Exclusive: Kell Brook vs Kevin Bizier heads to Jan 12 IBF purse bid

Should both sides disagree on a deal beforehand, the mandatory IBF welterweight title clash between Kell Brook and Kevin Bizier will go to a purse bid on January 12.

As it stands, Bizier’s promoter, Yvon Michel and Eddie Hearn – Brook’s handler, are yet to see eye-to-eye on the contest staging.

However, the former stated to WBN that things could change before the deadline.

IBF bid

“The IBF has scheduled a purse bid for January 12. I am in communication with Eddie via email. We got an offer, and we made an offer, then we got a counteroffer. We are evaluating our options now,” Michel exclusively told World Boxing News.

“I have a good relationship with Eddie, and we are both working for the benefit of our fighter. The communication line will still be open until purse bid day.”

Michel would like to gain his fighter the opportunity to compete for a world title on home soil in Canada. At the same time, Brook usually makes his defenses in the sanctuary of his beloved Sheffield.

There is also the possibility of holding the fight at a neutral venue in the US as negotiations continue on both sides.

Brook vs Bizier

Brook is said to be completing his obligation to number one Bizier to make a voluntary against UK rival Amir Khan over the summer.

Hearn has longed to put Brook and Khan together for the past two years and will be even more hopeful after the Olympic silver medallist recently missed out on both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

Challenger Bizier won his opportunity by halting Fredrick Lawson in ten rounds last November but has lost twice to Jo Jo Dan in the past. A fighter Brook brushed aside with ease in March via fourth-round stoppage.
