Exclusive: Johann Duhaupas throws hat into the ring for AJ on April 9

Recent WBC heavyweight title challenger Johann Duhaupas has informed WBN that he would like to oppose Anthony Joshua on April 9 in London.

The 34-year-old Frenchman, who put in a spirited effort before losing out in eleven rounds to Deontay Wilder in September, watched Joshua’s victory over Dillian Whyte on Saturday night and spotted flaws he can exploit in the promising Londoner.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn says the Olympic gold medallist will be ready to go again in the spring following his 15th win.

Duhaupas has offered his services for what would be an interesting test for the undefeated British and Commonwealth title holder.

“I’m ready to rumble with Anthony Joshua. I am already training after the Wilder fight. As I said in Alabama, I will be back,” Duhaupas exclusively told World Boxing News.

“I saw round two of Joshua’s fight with Whyte. It made me happy because I see that he doesn’t have a good chin.

“I’m sure I can win as Joshua is young and doesn’t have good experience.

“I always say I want the best and I want to win. I proved myself against Wilder and want another big challenge soon.”

JOHANN DUHAUPAS READY

Duhaupas’ manager Mehdi Ameur added: “I know Johann thinks Joshua is a great fighter. For sure, very soon he is the future and the next heavyweight champion. But he wants to fight him whenever and wherever.

“I know Johann Duhaupas is in good shape already. We would like to speak to Eddie Hearn about a fight on April 9th in London,” he said.

Joshua, 26, has already been linked to fights with compatriot Dereck Chisora and the winner of the European title clash between Robert Helenius and Frank Rill this weekend.

‘AJ’ is bidding to gain the necessary experience for a possible 2017 world title challenge.

The Watford man has shed some of the invincibility hanging over him prior to his encounter with Whyte. It may well be a blessing in disguise.

Joshua is pushing on towards inevitable blockbuster bouts with David Haye and Tyson Fury in the next eighteen months.
