It was announced in Tokyo that the traditional evening of New Year’s Eve on December 31, 2015 will see two champions of the World Boxing Association defend their titles.
Ryoichi Taguchi and Takashi Uchiyama both fight in Ota City on the night.
Uchiyama (23-0-1, 19 KO), the current 130 lbs super champion will defend his crown against an opponent ranked seventh in the division, Oliver Flores.
The Japanese boxer, who makes his eleventh defense of the WBA crown, told the media in his country that he will go for the KO, without departing from the artistic boxing he has always exhibited. He also said that within his next objectives is to make a fight in the United States during 2016.
If possible, in the words of Uchiyama himself and his team, he would like to address possible debut outside Japanese territory against the Jamaican Nicholas Walters
Before that, he must overcome the obstacle that presents itself in the Nicaraguan next month in Tokyo. Emerging victorious, Uchiyama would then approach the record held by compatriot Yoko Gushiken who made 13 defenses of his crown.
The co-featured bout of the program will see Taguchi (22-2-1, 9 KO) fight with Colombian Luis De la Rosa (24-5-1, 24 KO) in the second defense of his crown.
