Belfast’s featherweight contender Marco McCullough will now box Spain’s former EU (EBU) and Spanish super bantamweight champion Sergio Prado in the co-feature of ALL ON THE LINE, a huge night of championship boxing at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast on Friday November 20 that is headlined by the vacant Celtic middleweight title clash between unbeaten local rivals Conrad Cummings and Alfredo Meli.
Former WBO European and current Irish featherweight champ McCullough was originally scheduled to trade leather with Scotland’s Jon Slowey but the Glaswegian southpaw pulled out last week citing personal problems. Shankill Road stylist McCullough now has the chance to break into the EBU rankings as his Spanish opponent is ranked at number 10 in those ratings.
The thirty-two year old Prado has boxed at a very high level throughout his professional career, mixing it with some of Europe’s finest at super bantamweight and featherweight, including a bruising decision loss to Sheffield’s Kid Galahad last year. With wins over the likes of France’s dangerous Amor Belhadj Ali and Spain’s tough Angel Lorente, Madrid man Prado is an experienced campaigner who will be travelling to Belfast looking to reestablish himself as a serious title contender.
The same can be said for hometown favourite McCullough who is on the road back from a shock loss in Germany in June. A first-round destruction of Latvia’s Sergejs Logins last month acted as a warm up for this make or break 10-round featherweight encounter on November 20 at the Waterfront Hall.
The undercard for ALL ON THE LINE features an array of Belfast boxing talent including former Commonwealth Games gold medalist Paddy Gallagher, undefeated lightweight prospect Paul Hyland Jnr, undefeated welterweight prospect Matthew Wilton, as well as the professional debut of Coalisland’s popular Fergal McCrory.
Marc McCullough Quote: “Sergio Prado is a proven operator who has fought at a high level and is a former EU champ so I know I’ll have to be at my best,” said McCullough. “It’s disappointing that Jon (Slowey) has pulled out but now I have to focus on Prado and get the win in front of my home fans. This guy comes to win and is probably a better opponent than my original one so the fans are in for a real treat! I am one hundred percent confident that I will get the win on November 20, its going to be a great night.”
Blain McGuigan (Cyclone Promotions) Quote: “It was a shock to get the call last week that Jon Slowey had pulled himself out of the fight with Marc, the lad had travelled to Belfast for the press conference last month and proclaimed that he would beat Marc so it’s a strange one,” said McGuigan. “I’m really pleased that we have managed to find such a competitive replacement for Marc. Sergio Prado is a former EU champ and will be coming to Belfast to win. Prado is an aggressive, come-forward fighter and has boxed at a higher level than Marc’s original opponent so I believe that this will be a much more entertaining fight for the fans on November 20 at the Waterfront Hall.”
