Yigit to fight ex-world champ Corley on December 19

The Stockholm fighter, who represented Sweden in the London 2012 Olympics, has dazzled crowds with his fan friendly style since signing professional terms with Team Sauerland in April 2013.

Now, the 24 year-old talent must to test his skills against the former WBO World Champion Corley, a man who has a fought a who’s who of modern boxing greats including the recently retired pound-for-pound number one Floyd Mayweather Jr.

‘’I can’t afford to take this fight lightly,’’ said Yigit. ‘’Corley is definitely the toughest opponent I’ve come up against. He is a former World Champion who has fought the very best, and I have a lot of respect for what he’s done.

‘’I don’t think he is going to be faster or stronger than me but he is going to try to be smarter, and that’s what I’ve got to watch out for. I’m going to have to try and stay one step ahead of him and not let him figure me out. He’s not coming to play around, he’s coming to win, and I expect him to be a real threat.

‘’When you look at his record you can see all these great fighters like Mayweather, Cotto, Mathysse, Postol, Provodnikov – all these guys who have gone on to achieve amazing things in the sport. I know what’s at stake. Corley is the guy I need to beat to get to the next level in my career and that gives me all the motivation I need.’’

Promoter Nisse Sauerland has warned Yigit to keep his cool against the American veteran in what he describes as a ‘make or break fight’ for the Swedish light welterweight.

‘’DeMarcus is a well-known and highly respected opponent,’’ said Sauerland. ‘’You can’t buy the type of experience he has. Anthony will need to be careful. He must keep a clear head and not let the occasion affect his focus.

‘’This could be a make or break fight for him. If he wins he’s on to the next level – challenging for European then World titles, but if he loses it’s back to the drawing board. I know Anthony has what it takes to go all the way, and on December 19, he’s got the chance to prove it!’’

Anthony Yigit vs. DeMarcus Corley is the first fight confirmed for the undercard of The World Awaits: Erik Skoglund vs. Derek Edwards on December 19 at the Rosvalla Arena in Nyköping, Sweden. Tickets are available online via biljettforum.se or by calling (+46) 0771-130 150.
