Undefeated Crawford, who is recognised as one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world, is in the running to face Pacquiao in his swansong Las Vegas contest – alongside WBC silver welterweight title holder Amir Khan.
Asked his opinion on the fight going ahead next spring, when rumours that Briton Khan will be the chosen one, McIntyre answered to World Boxing News: “I think there is a very good chance we’ll see Terence fight Pacquiao on April 9. The fight would also be at 140.”
Pacquiao, 36, has long fought above his ideal weight in a bid to take on the best around but is really a 140 pound fighter, and would have the opportunity to challenge for a belt at his more comfortable limit should Crawford get the nod.
Given that both are with Top Rank and Bob Arum, the fight is an easy one to make, and would be a real old master versus young up and comer affair to see if Crawford really is the real deal we all suspect he is.
‘Bud’ has impressed in claiming two-weight world championships at 135 and more recently super lightweight, although Pacquiao would be a further step-up and give Crawford the opportunity to headline on pay-per-view for the first time.
An official announcement is expected this month, according to Bob Arum, who spoke to WBN on the matter earlier this week.
