In an exchange with Lance Pugmire of the LA Times, Roach predicted that a rematch of their first meeting in May is inevitable due to the vast amounts of money the first bout generated on HBO and Showtime pay-per-view.
Pacquiao, 36, claimed he fought with an injured shoulder last spring and has since undergone surgery, whilst Mayweather is just one win away from breaking Rocky Marciano’s long-standing 49-0 retirement record.
Roach says should the Congressman score an impressive win on his return next April in Las Vegas, an offer from Mayweather to duke it out for a second time at the MGM Grand is a shoe-in to land on Pacquiao’s table.
“If Manny fights a good fighter, looks good, has no shoulder injury, I think Floyd Mayweather and him will go one more time,” Roach told Pugmire. “(There’s) Too much money. … (And) They’re not going to let that go, I feel.”
Amir Khan, Terence Crawford and Timothy Bradley remain in the frame to be that opponent Pacquiao needs to overcome, with a final decision possible by the end of next week, promoter Bob Arum told WBN on Wednesday.
Mayweather, on the other hand, is still adamant that he won’t ever grace the ring again, although the 38 year-old’s love of the finer things in life and own driven ambition, would certainly point to an entirely alternative scenario.
