Jose Zepeda suffers second early finish in succession due to injury
An accidental head clash declared a No Contest in a fight between José ‘Chon’ Zepeda and former world champion Jose Alfaro in the main event of Saturday’s Zanfer function held in Tijuana, Baja California.
It was an unexpected result which was recorded in the very first round.
Zepeda (23-1, 20 KOs) came out of the quick fight with a deep cut on his left cheekbone after a collision with Alfaro (28-9, 24 KO’s) to the disappointment of fans who witnessed the fight in the Municipal Auditorium.
With both fighters barely finding their feet in the contest, the incident in which Zepeda took the brunt happend and signal the beginning of the end. The cut was reviewed by Dr. Ernesto Franco and he decided the ex-world title challenger could not continue the clash that was earmarked for ten rounds at junior welterweight bout.
Zepeda and Alfaro were fighting for the opportunity to contest the World Boxing Organization title in England against Terry Flanagan, but this outcome should mean the fight will be made again.
Also on the bill, Edivaldo “Indio” Ortega won on points, whilst Carlos “Chuko” Diaz and Elvis “Rocanrolero” Torres also came out with victories on the card.
