Exclusive: Saunders accuses Eubank’s of fooling the public

Saunders’ defeated Eubank Jr back in 2014 via a split decision and a distasteful feeling still remains between the pair. Eubank Jr (19-1, 14KO) – who will make his promotional debut for Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing this Saturday against Tony Jeter – has recently boasted about a potential fight with middleweight kingpin Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin somewhere down the line.

Saunders, however, thinks that Eubank Jr is only embarrassing himself by making such bold claims.

“Eubank Jr is not a world class fighter and will not be a world champion – never, ever. The belt he holds at the minute isn’t a world title and unless he fights a complete and utter bum, he will never get one. For him to say he’s up there with Golovkin is laughable and embarrassing. ‘GGG’ would stop him in 30 seconds,” Saunders exclusively told World Boxing News.

“Him and his father fraud people into buying how good he is, but you can’t lie in boxing – eventually he will get found out again. He’s fighting Tony Jeter next and I’ve never heard of him, he’s just another journeyman who Eubank will probably look good stopping.

“Eubank Jr is a British level fighter at best. He’s tough and will have a go, but someone whose clever and can box will bust him up easily. People say the fight with me was close, but people don’t realise I only trained for the weigh-in of that fight. I was sure he was going to pull out. I was still in great shape, but just wasn’t there mentally,” Saunders added.

Eubank Jr is also scheduled to fight again in December, in what should be a much tougher test against Cork’s Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan – a fighter Saunders has previously comfortably outpointed.

“It’s a genuine fight. Eubank might be the slightly better boxer, but Spike can pack a punch. If Eubank brings the Chudinov performance, then I have no doubt that Spike will knock him out. The only person to beat O’Sullivan is me and he didn’t even win a round in that fight. Eubank will have to learn how to beat him by studying me – basically, I’m teaching him how to get the victory,” Saunders said.
