Jack Massey’s latest outing a sell-out in Buxton

Jack Massey’s homecoming show should be quite something. The 22-year-old from Chapel-en-le-Frith boxes at home for the first time when he meets Gogita Gorgiladze at Buxton’s Devonshire Dome on Friday October 23, live and FREE on vipboxing.tv.

And with the show completely sold out, the cruiserweight says he is determined to put on an exciting performance and make the Dome an intimidating fortress where he can win future titles.

Massey takes on Gorgiladze for his first belt, with the pair clashing for the WBC Youth Silver cruiserweight crown. Former ABA winner Massey has swept away all before him to date, cruising to 8-0 with three KOs, and looks certain for a future British title shot sooner-rather-than-later. Gorgiladze though presents a real challenge. Of his 25 wins, the Georgian has knocked out 20 opponents, and has only been stopped three times in eight losses.

“He’s my toughest test yet,” assessed the Bobby Rimmer trained fighter, “but we’ve been working really hard in the gym and have got no worries. It’s time to step up for me, and I feel when I do step up I’m a better fighter. So I’m looking forward to fighting him and am more than confident of beating him.

“He boxes at range, but he’s also strong if he’s stopped 20 opponents. So I need to be a bit wary, but I’ll get in the ring and do what I’ve set out to do. We’ve been working on a tight defence and head movement, so if all goes to plan there’s nothing to worry about. A stoppage would be nice, but it’s my first 10-rounder so it would also be good to get the rounds in the bank for the future too.

“This is the first pro boxing event they’ve ever had at the Dome, and it’s only five minutes down the road for me so it’s right on the doorstep. It’s absolutely brilliant that it’s sold out. Everyone living there is so excited about pro boxing coming to the town, and excited that I’m doing well. The atmosphere will be great and I’m hoping this will be the first of many.”

Promoter Steve wood stated: “The cruiserweight scene in the UK is wide open at the moment, and we don’t think it will be too long before Jack is up there in the mix for a British title shot. He has got a decent test this Friday though, the Georgian has a good record and he can obviously hit very hard so Jack needs to stay focused. If he wins this belt then it adds to his growing reputation, and the Dome is a great venue so we’d like to keep coming back.”

VIP Promotions present a quality evening of boxing at the Devonshire Dome on Friday October 23. The show will be headlined by Derbyshire’s Jack Massey versus Gogita Gorgiladze for the WBC Youth Silver cruiserweight crown.

Also appearing will be Manchester’s Kallum De’Ath and Charlie Schofield; Rossington’s Maxi Hughes, and Failsworth’s Jake Bulger.

The show is sold out but will be streamed live and free on vipboxing.tv
