Ortiz bulldozes through Vidondo; Johnson dominates O’Kane

The Cuban bullied Vidondo from the off and made his mark in the second round with a crushing right hook off the ropes. Vidondo went down hard but just survived the round, until a third session onslaught saw the fight waved off with the South American face down on the canvas.

Sterner tests should now follow for Ortiz (23-0) who is still yet to mix it at the very highest level in the top division.

In an IBF eliminator at middleweight, Tureano Johnson looked to be on his way to an early victory over Eamonn O’Kane after dropping the Irishman twice in the first round.

O’Kane survived the round, although was outclassed by Johnson who took the decision 119-107, 118-108 and 117-109 with the judges.

Maurice Hooker edged out Ghislain Maduma over ten rounds via a split decision. Super lightweight Hooker took his record to 19-0-2 with scores of 95-93 and 95-94, whilst a third judged saw the contest in favour of Maduma 95-93.

At lightweight, unbeaten Lamont Roach Jr took his six-rounder 59-55 on all three scorecards to inflict a sixth loss on Jose Bustos before Ruslan Madiev out-pointed Sean Gee 40-35 twice and 39-36 to head to 6-0 as a pro.
