Prichard Colon is in a coma following surgery on Saturday night to treat a bleed on the brain suffered in his welterweight clash with Terrel Williams.
The PBC bout was halted early amidst confusion in Colon’s corner as the fighter’s gloves were removed one round too soon.
Colon was eventually disqualified by referee Joseph Cooper, but things soon took a sombre turn in the dressing room of the Puerto Rican.
The 23 year-old suffered dizzy spells, vomiting and even fainted backstage and was immediately rushed to hospital, where he was diagnosed with bleeding on his brain.
Emergency surgery took place and Colon is currently in a coma as staff at Inova Fairfax hospital monitor his life threatening situation.
An update was released on Colon’s official social media account that outlined the injury was situated on the left side of his brain.
“I know you’re worried about the health of Prichard. I just spoke with his mother and he is in recovery after bleeding in the left side of his brain. We will keep you informed of any developments by this means. His family is going through a difficult time and may not respond to the media. They’ll keep you informed.
“We ask prayer for the speedy recovery of Prichard.”
Sincerely, Alan Obrador
