Exclusive: Diego Chaves questions Kell Brook opponents, eyes KO win

The 29 year-old travels to the UK for the first time in his career to face the IBF welterweight champion at home in Sheffield on October 24 and is focused on ripping the belt away from undefeated Brook in spectacular fashion.

“We are very calm because I have reached the best moment of my career. I’m fine with the weight and I’ll fight an Englishman at home for the world title, which means everything for my career,” Chaves told World Boxing News.

“I go to England to make a good fight. We know that we’ll be in another country, but we must not think about it or the judges. We must think only about the fight. The idea is to go to work from the beginning and to try to win by KO, but I know it’s a tough fight. I just I have to do my job from the first to the last round and to avoid gaps in my fight plan.

““I don’t have to fight out of my home in a strange place, but everyone knows that I never ducked anyone – even though few people have recognized that in the past.”

Chaves was then asked what he makes of Brook as a champion and if he had seen his recent title defences against Jo Jo Dan and Frankie Gavin, to which he replied: “Brook is a very good fighter, but we know he hasn’t faced as reputable opponents as me, only Shawn Porter.

“Despite this, I know I have to work hard to get the title and do not have a prediction on when the fight will end. I just want to win the world title and then take on whoever.

“I know I have the necessary experience to become a world champion and I plan to show this against Brook,” he added.
