Exclusive: Leonard expected more from Pacquiao against Mayweather

Pacquiao, 36, has since nursed a shoulder injury following a decision defeat to the current pound for pound king in a contest that smashed all pay-per-view records and earned both fighters a nine-figure check.

Upon witnessing what was expected to be the encounter of a generation, multi-weight former world champion Leonard says Pacquiao did look his old self when trading punches with Mayweather for the duration.

“I was expecting more from the Mayweather v Pacquiao fight. Pacquiao wasn’t throwing his shots with his usual intent and he obviously wasn’t the fighter he was when he was at the top of his game.

“He used to be all aggression and dominate fighters by coming forward, but we didn’t see that against Floyd Mayweather.”

Pacquiao was linked to a fight with Amir Khan until the Briton stated that he would be pulling out of negotiations this week, although Leonard is hopeful that the pair can reach an agreement.

“If Pacquiao fights Amir Khan then that will be an great fight for the fans and very interesting to watch,” said the all-time great.
