Chris Keane launches comeback in Walsall on Saturday

The 28 year-old hasn’t boxed since he ruptured his bicep during the narrowest of defeats to Lawrence Bennett in June 2014. It was a fight Keane was winning before disaster struck and, although the Midlands Area Champion, battled on bravely, he slipped to a split decision loss in a British Title Eliminator.

Before then, Keane’s career was back on the up and a shot at a Lord Lonsdale belt looked imminent. The former ABA Champion made a solid start to life in the paid ranks, racking up 10 straight victories (including four KO’s). He defeated Shane McPhilbin to lift the Midlands Area Title in 2013 before stepping in with Neil Dawson for the WBO International Cruiserweight Title in May of that year.

That fight didn’t go according to plan as Dawson caught Keane in the second round to inflict a first career loss. Keane bounced back however, recording points victories over Lithuanian duo, Remigijus Ziausys and Igoris Borucha, before that Bennett loss.

Since then the former Pleck ABC star has endured endless rehabilitation sessions and consultations to correct his bicep. Finally, with the injury seemingly behind him, Keane is ready to makes waves in the cruiserweight division and make up for lost time.

“It’s been a tough 15 months,” he told www.uko-boxing.com. “Even with the injury I thought I beat Bennett but that’s gone now. I’ve had lots of meetings with various consultants and had some corrective work done to fix the problem. I’ve been back in the gym for a while now and am feeling fitter and stronger with each session.

“The phone doesn’t half go quiet when you’re injured. I feel like the forgotten man a little but that will soon change. I don’t fear any cruiserweight in Britain. I’m coming for them all. I’m gunning for each and every one of them. I’m ready to make up for lost time.”

Keane begins his journey on the road to what he hopes will lead to domestic honours with a four-round contest at Walsall FC’s Stadium Suite next weekend.

Tickets, priced at £30 and £60 Ringside, are available by calling the Walsall FC Box Office on 01922 651 414/416 or 07960 388 949.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring,” Keane added. “It’s been a while. I’ve missed it. My team have stayed behind me and kept believing in me, which has helped.

“I’m looking forward to blowing away a few cob webs.”

Stourbridge’s Steven Pearce, headlines the show as he warms up for his English Welterweight Title shot in December.

Ricky Hatton trained duo – Wednesbury welterweight, Sam Evans, and Market Harborough welterweight, Reuben Arrowsmith.

Old Hill lightweight, Manny Zaber, Stoke light welterweight, Kieron McLaren, Midlands Area Light Welterweight Champion, Andy Keates, and Romford light welterweight, Anthony Upton, are also in action.

Tickets, priced at £30 and £60 Ringside, are available by calling the Walsall FC Box Office on 01922 651 414/416 or 07875 653 842.
