Watch: Tyrone McCullagh discusses signing with Goodwin Boxing

Steve Goodwin spent Monday on this week flying to Derry in Northern Ireland to complete the signing.

“We are delighted to welcome Tyrone to our team. We are not looking at a boxer here who’s aim is domestic honours, we are looking at a super talent who can go onto the world stage and be Ireland’s next superstar. We are planning for Tyrone to fight in Belfast as well as coming to the UK shores to fight on our shows as well. We expect to be able to release full fight details for Tyrone within the next 14 days”.

Tyrone was delighted at signing with Steve Goodwin. Interviewed in this weeks Derry journal Tyrone said “It’s brilliant,” smiled Tyrone. “I think Goodwin are the top three or four boxing promoters in the UK so it’s a big enough name to be signing with and hopefully this can be the start of a good few years in the professional ranks.
“I went over to England to talk to them and met with Steve Goodwin and they told me they were keen to sign me. They looked like a good outfit and so I went back home and decided to sign.

“They then told me that to save me going back over to England they would fly over here which was good of them.

“It shows they’re keen in signing me by coming here to Buncrana. I’m glad of their support and hopefully this is the start of something good for me.

“They seem genuine. They’re only up and running about four years I think and are already one of the biggest names in the UK.”

With names like John O’Donnell and Leon McKenzie in their books, Tyrone is hoping he can quickly make a name for himself under the Goodwin banner. And he has plans to return to the ring in late November.

“They’ve got a few big names already signed with them which is good. They seem to put a show on in York Hall every six weeks or so and hopefully I can get started with one of those in the near future. “I’m hoping to get back in the ring in November.

“In your first couple of years as a pro you would like to get as many fights as possible to get the ball rolling. So I’m hoping to stay busy and start jumping from six to eight rounds in a couple of fights time.”

“And the more impressive you the more people start taking notice,” he concluded.

McCullagh has had just one outing in the pro ranks with a 2nd round stoppage win in July this year.

Steve Goodwin finished by saying “It shows what are delivering for our boxers that boxers like Tyrone come to us. It is going to be an exciting road with Tyrone and we are all looking forward to it!
