Super middleweight Martin Murray has given his full support to training partner and good friend Rocky Fielding ahead of Fielding’s headline November clash with local rival Callum Smith.
Fielding (21-0) will challenge Smith for the vacant British title at the Echo Arena on November 7 in a bout that has divided the city of Liverpool. Both boxers are undefeated going into the fight – but Murray believes Fielding has what it takes to secure the victory and the coveted Lonsdale Belt.
Murray told World Boxing News: “It’s a very close fight and you’ve got to hand it to both lads for taking the fight at this stage in their career.
“It’s a genuine 50/50 fight and it’s totally split down the middle as to who takes it. I’ve got to pick Rocky to get the victory – He’s my mate and I see him every day in training and know what he’s capable of.”
“Rocky has a great team around him and a great trainer in Oliver Harrison. Of course, Callum Smith is very talented and it’s going to be a really close fight – but I just feel Rocky has what it takes and I’m fully behind him,” he added.
Smith v Fielding is live from the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Sky Sports November 7
