Paulie Malignaggi, Andy Ruiz card decisive eight round victories

WBC 28/09/2015

Making a surprising return after his painful, but stark defeat at the capable hands of Danny Garcia, former two-division world champion Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi (34-7, 7 KOs) made his debut in Italy and won an eight round unanimous decision over journeyman Laszlo Fazekas (27-22-1, 17 KOs) of Hungary at Principe Theater in Milan.

According to some of the news reports, Paulie could now face European welterweight champion Gianluca Branco (49-3-1, 24KOs), who’s won 13 of his last 14 bouts.

The scores for this non too demanding jaunt or excursion were: 79-72, 80-71, 80-71.

In the United States, heavyweight contender Andy Ruiz Jr. (25-0, 17 KOs) defended his NABF belt, winning an eight round unanimous decision over tough Joell Godfrey (17-15-1, 6 KOs).

In his first start of 2015, Ruiz jumped on Godfrey from the opening bell and punished him on the ropes for most of round one. That set the tone for the fight, as Ruiz continued to dish and deal out the pain and Godfrey continued to soak it up, tempering the strain.

After the completion of the contest, all three judges had it 80-72 in the fight that took place at Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino, Lemoore, California.
