Quigg, 26, recently missed out on a blockbuster clash with ex-pound for pound star Nonito Donaire and has been locked in talks with IBF title holder Frampton about the possibility of a neutral UK clash in the coming months.
As WBN revealed on Thursday, the IBF have stipulated that Frampton must begin mandatory negotiations with Japan’s Shingo Wake from September 28, which could potentially leave Quigg without his two first choice options.
McDonnell is currently in possession of the WBA bantamweight version and has made it plain that a fight with Quigg at the higher weight would appeal following his back-to-back victories over Tomoki Kameda in 2015.
Trainer Dave Coldwell stated to WBN in a previous interview that fighting Quigg is the next logical step, and as both are promoted by Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn, the fight should be relatively uncomplicated to make in the coming months.
“Jamie McDonnell put up a good performance twice against Tomoki Kameda and he beat a good fighter so fair play to him,” Quigg exclusively told World Boxing News.
“Everybody knows I want the big fights like Frampton, Donaire, but after calling me out, a fight with Jamie McDonnell is one that can be made as we both have the same promoter.
“I’m willing to face him as he has put himself in a position that if he does move up in weight he’s in the mix. Jamie has got a good reputation and I’m more than happy to face him. Plus, I’m 100 percent confident that I will beat him.”
With Donaire out of the window and the Frampton clash in the balance, Quigg reiterated that if nothing can be done to secure a massive encounter with ‘The Jackal,’ a domestic dust-up with McDonnell is the next best on offer.
“Like I said, we are both with Matchroom so I think that the McDonnell is a fight that could easily be made in the early part of next year,” said Quigg.
“Obviously, it all depends on my priorities of trying to secure the main one with Frampton. As Donaire looks to be gone, if Frampton can’t be made too, then fighting Jamie McDonnell will be a big war of the roses Lancashire v Yorkshire fight.
“I think maybe a lot of people would like to see that fight now after him stringing a couple of world class wins together, but at the moment my priority has to be Frampton over McDonnell,” he added.
