Paul Butler to appear on October 3 Wolverhampton bill

‘Baby Faced Assassin’ Paul Butler (18-1), the former British, Commonwealth and IBF World titleholder will take part in a 10-round contest at the Wolves Civic on Saturday October 3rd on the co-promoted Frank Warren and P.J Rowson show, live and exclusive on BoxNation.

The 26-year-old, who hovers between super-flyweight and bantamweight adorned with major titles in both divisions, is awaiting news of his next opponent as he plans a route back to the world title contention.

The Ellesmere Port favourite, suffered a setback when trying to make history as the first Brit boxer to step down a weight to win a second world title, since the legendary Bob Fitzsimmons did so over 100 years ago. However, he was stopped in the eighth round of the IBF super-flyweight championship fight by the powerful Zolani Tete in March this year.

Following a stoppage victory in July in his comeback fight from his solitary career loss, Butler is now aiming to get back into the world title mix in what will be his 20th professional contest.

Bill-topper, Tommy Langford, promises a stoppage win in the main event to wow the crowds when he takes on Argentinean rival Christian Fabian Rios (20-6-3) in his first title defence of the WBO Inter-Continental middleweight strap that he secured with a fourth round TKO over tough Mexican Julio Cesar Avalos (15-4) in Dublin on July 4th.

The unbeaten 26-year-old Birmingham-based ace headlines the show for the first time in his three year professional career that has seen him race to 13 fights unbeaten without ever dropping a single round.

Argentine national champion Rios, 32-years-old, is a tricky southpaw with good movement and held Matthew Macklin’s conqueror, Jorge Sebastian Heiland, to a draw three years ago.

Langford said of his forthcoming challenger, “He’s very a durable, good southpaw and never been stopped so he’ll be a good test for me at this point in my career but I think I’ll break him down and make a big statement with a stoppage.”

He added, “I’m a lot stronger now and there’s a lot more to come from me. The better the fighter in front of me, the more it will bring from me.”

A third 10-rounder on the card will decide the next challenger to Navid Mansouri’s English light-middleweight title, when Dudley’s Ryan Aston (16-2-2) takes on Nathan Graham (17-6-1) in an eliminator.

Aston’s Priory Park Boxing Club stable-mates Les Byfield (1-1) and super-middleweight debutant Josh Miller both have four-round bouts on the night.

Midlands super-middleweight champion Andrew Robinson (15-1) enters into a six round contest for his 17th bout.

Tyler Denny also gets a six-round run out at the weight division below Robinson.

Frank Warren’s television channel will broadcast live with his team of fighters in Guisborough light-welterweight Josh Leather (7-0), Macauley MacGowan, Leicester super-featherweight Leon Woodstock (2-0) and Raza Hamza (1-0-1).
