The 20 year-old, who has compiled a 16-0 record in the paid ranks, opposes Firtha on the undercard of cousin Tyson’s world title challenge against Wladimir Klitschko in Dusseldorf and Peter explained that it’s no easy fight.
Firtha went five rounds with Tyson in 2011 and four rounds with WBC champion Deontay Wilder in 2014, so is seen as a gauge for the younger Fury to see if can match or beat the performances of two world-level operators.
“Nicolai Firtha is no pushover and once again Hughie is fighting decent world level opposition,” Fury told World Boxing News.
“Firtha has been mixing it with the best heavyweights out there and he gave Wilder a run for his money for those four rounds, so he’s tough and comes to fight every time.
“I believe he beat Johnathon Banks when they fought and got robbed and let’s not forget that he went the distance with Alexander Povetkin. Tyson also had a war with him, so he’s a good credible and hard fight for Hughie.
“I think he has 20 wins from 32 fights and these guys don’t go over without a fight. Hughie is learning the hard route and making his own path,” he added.
Asked whether a future UK scrap with Anthony Joshua, who recently improved his record to 14-0 with a first round win over Gary Cornish, was on the cards in the future, Fury replied: “At the moment, we are not looking at Joshua at all.
“We are taking every fight as it comes for Hughie, but if their paths cross at some point then I’m sure we will consider it. Until then, Hughie will keep taking on experience fighters.”
