Peter Fury: David Haye of no interest to Tyson or Hughie, return could be money orientated

Fury is overseeing preparations for the undefeated 26 year-old as he aims to dethrone the Ukrainian in Germany, something Haye himself failed to do when he shared twelve rounds with Klitschko in 2011.

Haye, 35, is hoping to make a comeback following over three years out of action after undergoing surgery on an injured shoulder that scuppered previous attempts at pitting the ex-cruiserweight against Tyson, firstly in 2013 and then again in early 2014.

Upon hearing that the ‘Hayemaker’ was aiming to mix it with some of the top contenders when he finally laces up the gloves again, Fury was more sceptical than welcoming and questioned Haye’s motivation for climbing between the ropes again.

“David Haye was a talented fighter, but he’s 35 now and you have to wonder if the comeback is money orientated after being out for so long,” Fury exclusively told World Boxing News.

“I’m not sure that he could get back to where he once was or where he wants to be, but the way the current heavyweight scene is anything is possible.

“I wouldn’t say he was too old, but he fought Klitschko four years ago, and although he did well, he wasn’t good enough back then.”

On the possibility of Tyson rekindling interest in fighting Haye if he defeats Klitschko next month, Fury added: “Haye is of no interest to us. He pulled out of fights before and either Tyson nor Hughie are not interested in him now,” he confirmed.

The last time Haye fought was against Dereck Chisora in the infamous London grudge match three years ago, which was put together on the back of their public brawl at a post-fight Vitali Klitschko press conference in Munich.

Granted that Haye looked terrific that night from ringside, although too much water may have now passed under the bridge and talk of facing the likes of Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder seems highly premature without a fight under his belt in almost forty months.
