Legendary coach Nacho Beristain to be honored in Mexico

With 55 years of career and 26 world champions, legendary boxing trainer Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain will be honored on September 12th in Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico.

The announcement has been made by “Producciones la Talla” and “Distrito Box Promotions”, during a press conference hosted by “Costa Line.”

With a brilliant career in boxing, Ignacio Beristain is a member of the Boxing Hall of Fame, having led the conquest world titles of 26 Mexicans fighters.

Some of the champions who Nacho Beristain has brilliantly guided include the four-time champion Daniel Zaragoza, Gilberto Roman, the brothers Juan Manuel and Rafael Marquez, Ricardo “Finito” Lopez, and Humberto “Chiquita” Gonzalez.

The ceremony, which five thousand people are expected to attend, will take place in a great boxing card to be held at the Acapulco Convention Center, which will feature 12 fights, amateur and professional.

According to the official poster, it’ll begin with amateur boxers and later will be present Shoki Sakai and Javier Mercado, who will fight for the Youth Championship. Other boxing bouts will be Efrain Perez vs. Ruben Montoya, Jackie Calvo vs. Edith Flores.

At the press conference at the “Central de Autobuses del Sur”, emblematic place of the transfer of tourists from Mexico City to Acapulco, popular participants were Humberto “Chiquita” Gonzalez, Shoki Sakai, Gustavo Garibay and Jackie Calvo, who welcomed the deserved tribute and they stressed that Nacho Beristain is a man who’s dedicated his life to impart his vast knowledge to so many young fighters.
