Ricardo Mayorga was out of his depth on Saturday night in a fight that was aimed to help the Nicaraguan out of a tight spot, financially.
The 41 year-old, without a significant win in ten years, was drawn out of obscurity to give Mosley the platform to put himself back in contention for big fights, something the American did with relative ease.
Mosley, 43, scored the 48th victory of his career at The Forum, Inglewood in California having halted Mayorga in the sixth round with a peach of a body shot.
Prior to the knockout, Mayorga consistently wanted to prove who had the cojones by putting his hands down and taunting Mosley to hit him flush, which ‘Sugar’ Shane duly did with predictable results.
The truth of the matter was that Mayorga has nothing left in his career and wanted to put on some sort of show for the fans ringside and those who paid almost fifty dollars via pay-per-view.
Judge for yourselves by viewing the video provided, but the victory is of no real significance to Mosley’s career despite the pre-fight publicity and will go down as mess from start to finish.
Where Mosley goes from here is anyone’s guess after avoiding a tenth career loss and scoring only a second win since 2009.
