Results: Macklin blasts out Hermann; Hammer out-points Williams

Three-time world middleweight title challenger Matthew Macklin improved his record to 33-6 with a first round knockout of Chris Hermann in Marbella.

The 33 year-old took out the German early on with a sweet body shot and is preparing to move down to 154lbs for the first time since 2006 to face Jason Welborn in Birmingham.

Also on the bill, lightweight Declan Geraghty is now 9-1 following a 60-54 twice, 59-55 points win over Daniel Bazo, whilst Sean ‘Big Sexy’ Turner made is six straight victories at heavyweight with a shutout four rounder over Igoris Borucha.

There was also a triumph for James Metcalf who stopped Aleksei Tsatiasvili in four rounds to improve to 11-0, whilst Marc Kerr, Ciaran Mullen, David Maguire and Costi Ion all made it into the victory column. Lightweight Ciaran McVarnock could only manage a draw with previously winless Jose Acero though and lost his perfect record.

Elsewhere in Romania, heavyweight Christian Hammer scored a ten-round points win over Sherman Williams to move to 18-4, whilst EC Boxing stablemate Adrian Granat continued his progress in stopping journeyman Konstantin Airich in three rounds to push his record to 8-0.

In the United States, Jonathan Maicelo carded an impressive unanimous points win over Brandon Bennett and can now boast a 22-2 C.V.
