Eliseev: No word from Malignaggi yet, Senchenko open to USA fight

Senchenko lost to Malignaggi back in 2012, one of only two reverses the Ukrainian suffered in his career, and Eliseev hopes to oversee a revenge mission for the former WBA welterweight champion.

“We are ready to make the fight in USA but we still didn’t get any answer from Malignaggi camp. Perhaps it’s a too little time from his last fight and they are choosing their strategy now,” Eliseev exclusively told World Boxing News.

Malignaggi was close to agreeing a European title fight with EBU belt holder Gianluca Branco before suffering a crushing loss to Danny Garcia this month and it is currently unknown whether ‘The Magic Man’ will compete again anytime soon.

Union Boxing head Eliseev sees a return with Senchenko as the ideal fight for Malignaggi that could lead him to fulfilling his dream of being crown champion of Europe and hopes the pair can sit down soon to see if a deal can be reached.

“We all know that Malignaggi cannot fight for the EBU title in the near future as he needs to stop his last two defeats and record a win in order to challenge Branco. The champion has an official challenger in Leonard Bundu and Branco is also going to make a voluntary defense in September.

“The Senchenko vs Malignaggi fight is more real, interesting and intriguing and can be done whilst Branco fulfils his obligations.

“We know Senchenko lost to Paulie and that led us to making a fight with Hatton. If Senchenko didn’t lose his championship title, the fight with Hatton wouldn’t never have been possible, but Malignaggi was expecting Hatton to win and that’s why he was present at the Manchester arena.

“When Hatton beat Senchenko, as everyone expected, Malignaggi would then make his rematch with Ricky, but Senchenko changed everything and spoiled Malignaggi’s plans.

“Even though Senchenko has finished his career, Malignaggi is a fight he will come back for and he has real ambitions for this fight,” he added.
