Duhaupas edges closer to Wilder test, fights off KO predictions

The 34 year-old has already been named by WBC President Mauricio Sulaiaman as the opponent for Wilder on September 26 in Birmingham, Alabama as a formal announcement draws nearer for the champion’s second defense.

Even before being made official, number 12 ranked Duhaupas has come out fighting as predictions of an easy knockout win for Wilder begin doing the rounds in a move that has obviously irked the former EU title holder.

“Many see me getting KO’d before the fight has even begun, should I listen to that?” said Duhaupas.

“Why go through hell if I just go there to lose? It would be much easier to give up and find excuses for not getting up to train and kill myself in a workout. I can get hit for days in sparring, but even though, some see me losing before fighting given that I will face the champion.

“Then there are those who see hope, a man who does not let anything get to him and let anything go. For those are the ones I train for and myself. I will train and believe for these fans and I’ll go and give everything as I have always done.

“I am surprising myself and my hour has come, I will have no regrets and leave it all on the line,” he added.

Duhaupas has suffered two losses in his 34-fight career, once to Francesco Pianeta and more recently to current European champion Erkan Teper, which puts the underdog way down in the betting as he heads into what will be the fight of his life next month.
