WBN has been informed that a mouth-watering welterweight clash between undefeated Errol Spence Jr and former IBO title holder Chris Van Heerden is set to be announced shortly for September 11.
The 147lb contest, for the IBF International belt, will be taking place on the undercard of Adonis Stevenson’s WBC light-heavyweight championship defense against Tommy Karpency at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto, Canada.
Spence, 25, will aim to build on his recent win over Phil Lo Greco after the southpaw stopped the ‘Italian Sensation’ in just three rounds at the MGM Grand on the Shawn Porter v Adrien Broner undercard.
The American has recorded 14 stoppages from 17 wins so far in his career and has been touted as a future world champion since entering the paid ranks back in 2012 following disappointment at the London Olympics.
Opponent Van Heerden, also a southpaw, is putting the fringe IBF title he won earlier this year against Cecil McCalla on the line for the very first time as the 28 year-old South African makes his long-awaited TV debut on Premier Boxing Champions.
‘The Heat’ currently trains at the Wild Card Gym with renowned mentor Freddie Roach and has won all five of his bouts since making the switch from his home to California in December 2013.
More fights are set to be added to the event shortly.
