Former WBC featherweight Champion Jhonny Gonzalez (58-9, 49 KOs) scored a second round TKO over Kazuki Hashimoto (11-5, 7 KOs) on Saturday night at the Auditorio Bicentenario in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico.
Gonzalez dropped Hashimoto with an extended left hook and the bout was waved off at two minutes 56 seconds. It was Jhonny’s first fight since losing the WBC belt against Gary Russell in March. With this triumph, he conquers the vacant WBC super featherweight International Silver crown.
Jhonny’s vast experience proved the dominant factor. He kept Hashimoto at bay with long left jabs and then shook him with his famed left hook. After he’d been canvassed by that mighty left, Hashimoto bravely got up, but he was visibly dazed and cotton wool legged. The Referee immediately stepped in to save him.
A great start as a super featherweight for Jhonny who’s aiming for a title fight against formidable WBC Champion Takashi Miura by year end, or at the beginning of 2016.
