Campbell v Coyle: Results from Hull

Luke Campbell took out a brave Tommy Coyle in the tenth round of a one-sided but spirited contest.

Referee Victor Loughlin ended the bout following numerous knockdowns which took nothing away from Coyle. The Jamie Moore trained fighter took everything from the superior Campbell even when knowing he was outclassed but goes away with plenty of Kudos for his effort.

In the co-feature, Brian Rose gained revenge on Carson Jones for the controversial first round knockout suffered when they met previously with a decisive points win.

The Blackpool man defiantly stuck to his game plan despite a bad cut to his nose early on to see out a 119-111, 117-112 and 116-112 triumph on the cards.

A third fight between the pair would be most welcome for the fans but maybe not for the fighters themselves.

Ricky Burns made a successful return to lightweight with a fifth round stoppage win over Prince Ofotsu. Burns was well on top, although the timing of the fight being halted was puzzling.

Ofotsu’s corner threw in the towel when their seemed to be no immediate danger – which was then caught and handed back by the stunned Ghanaian.

Heavyweight Dillian Whyte warmed up for his British title clash with Anthony Joshua by easily knocking out Irineu Costa in the first round.

Undefeated Whyte hardly needed to get out of first gear after droppimg the Brazilian with what seemed to be a glancing blow. A second follow-up ended the fight immediately as Costa clearly had enough and wanted no part of the Brits punching power.

Martin J Ward grinded out a ten round unanimous win over Sergio Blanco to retain his fringe WBC super featherweight belt.

Ex-bantamweight world champion Stuart Hall made easy work of Edwin Tellez to take every round of six on the scorecards, whilst journeyman Kristian Laight scored a hard-fought points win 39-38 over Carl Chadwick for a rare triumph.

Ryan Fuller edged Martin Szatmari 39-37 on the back of Gamal Yafai dropping Angel Lorente before seeing out a 60-53 victory.

Early victories for super welterweight Connor Seymour, welterweight George Rhodes and super lightweight Charlie Flynn who all won on points.
