World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed that Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez will return to the ring on the October 17th card highlighted by Gennady Golovkin at Madison Square Garden in the heart of the Big Apple.
Gonzalez could be facing Mexican, Giovanni Segura, or “Hawaiian Punch” Brian Viloria as the co-main event of the night, which will be broadcast by HBO.
On May 16th, Roman TKO’d Edgar Sosa, at the fabled Inglewood Forum in California.
“We are very happy for “Chocolatito” as he’s going to be part of this card,” Mauricio commented to ESPN, also adding: “Golovkin and “Chocolatito” have created a lot of interest and both of them are on for October 17th.”
Regarding the possible rivals, Mauricio commented: “Giovanni Segura and Bryan Viloria are the main possibilities, and both of them are acceptable for the WBC.”
Golovkin fights David Lemieux in a three-belt middleweight title unification in his first pay-per-view fight.
