Welterweight contender Andre Berto has declared himself ‘happy to be in running’ for a potential fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr amidst rumours the former WBC title holder will land the fight on September 12.
The 31 year-old has won his last two fights following back-to-back losses to Roberto Guerrero and Jesus Soto-Karass and says he is ‘ready for the challenge should it come his way.
Mayweather, 38, attempts to equal Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 retirement record on September 12 in Las Vegas in a contest that is set to shown free-to-air on CBS.
An official announcement is long overdue and could be made at any point via Mayweather’s usual method of social media.
