Former world champion and Ricky Hatton conqueror Vyacheslav Senchenko returns to the ring on Friday night in what will be his farewell bout.

The 38 year-old closed the fighting chapter of Hatton’s career in a comeback bout by the Englishman in 2012, before suffering a destructive loss to the Hitman’s compatriot Kell Brook just a year later.

Senchenko was battered in four rounds by the now IBF welterweight title holder in October 2013, and despite having since beaten Vitaliy Charkin and previously undefeated Laszlo Toth, is planning to hang up his gloves.

The Ukrainian held the WBA belt at 147 pounds from 2009 until 2012 when Paulie Malignaggi took a chance in fighting Senchenko in his own backyard and came away with a rare stoppage victory at the Donbass Arena.

This weekend’s clash takes place at the AKKO International in Kiev as Senchenko faces the unheralded Sergei Melis who has 25 wins and 18 losses on his chequered record.

Also appearing on the bill are undefeated flyweight contender Artem Dalakian, featherweight Oleg Yefimovych and super bantamweight Oleksandr Yegorov, whilst heavyweight Andriy Rudenko makes a second appearance since his loss to Hughie Fury in Monte Carlo, Monaco last February.
