WBC reaffirm Jack v Groves August 22 date; Chocolatito assured super-flyweight shot

Sulaiman confirmed the Jack v Groves super middleweight title date of August 22 in Las Vegas a short while ago via his social media account, which was then upheld when asked directly by WBN in a lengthy conversation on Friday night.

“From what I know from the promoter of Badou Jack, which is Mayweather Promotions, it’s August 22nd in Las Vegas. I believe they have exchanged contracts and are into the visa’s, so I do not think that is about to change right now,” Sulaiman exclusively told World Boxing News.

Both sides are yet to make anything public on the impending contest, whilst the exact venue is still a mystery for what will be Mayweather protégé Jack’s maiden outing since he ripped the green belt away from Anthony Dirrell in April.

In other news, Sulaiman was quizzed about a potential further move up in weight for pound for pound star Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez. The Nicaraguan continues to plough his way through all opposition and currently holds an 86 percent knockout ratio through a remarkable ten-year career.

The hard-hitting 28 year-old is also a three-weight world title holder and recently improved his awesome record to 43-0 when making his HBO debut on the Gennady Golovkin v Willie Monroe Jr undercard in California.

Gonzalez has campaigned at 112lbs since May 2013, and having dipped his toes above flyweight on two occasions since, it is widely thought that a move up to super flyweight is on the cards.

Sulaiman informed WBN that if Gonzalez was to inform them of his decision to officially climb to 115lbs, the unbeaten champion would then be offered a shot at current belt holder Carlos Cuadras or any alternate that dethrones the Mexican in the future,.

“If Roman Gonzalez moved up to super-flyweight he would get an immediate shot if that is what he wanted, yes of course,” stated Sulaiaman.

“He is a great champion and I was just with him on Thursday, a really great champion.
