The sling that supports his injured right shoulder has long been removed, but Manny Pacquiao declared that he’s not going to be in the ring this year.
“Hindi na (No more),” Pacquiao said when asked about a possible comeback before the year ends.
There has been talk that Pacquiao may fight later this year after it was noted that his injured shoulder had been healing faster than originally anticipated. He injured the shoulder during his fight with Floyd Mayweather last May 2 in Las Vegas where he lost by unanimous decision.
Four days after the fight, doctors in Los Angeles performed an operation on the torn rotator cuff and Pacquiao was told that he will likely be resting the rest of the year to allow the injury to fully heal.
Pacquiao, 35, will probably make his ring return in April or May of 2016 as Mayweather looks for an alternative opponent for his next fight on September 12 in Las Vegas.
Even Bob Arum, the Hall of Fame promoter and head of Top Rank, said the immediate concern is the full rehabilitation of Pacquiao’s shoulder after surgery.
“I have been talking with his doctor,” said Arum, who remains deeply involved in resuscitating Pacquiao’s career.
