Danny Green out of retirement to face Tamas Kovacs

Despite out-pointing Shawn Cameron in November 2012, Green decided to walk away from the sport and had his fingers in other pies until this week’s shock announcement.

The 42 year-old, who is a two-time IBO title holder, will face Tamas Kovacs, 38, in Melbourne in what he hopes will be the first step to another fight with Anthony Mundine.

“I’m pumped to announce I’m back,” said Green. “Had a cracking presser at Crown Casino’s Sports Bar and had a fantastic turnout. August 19 at Hisense Arena Melbourne and Tamas Kovacs from Slovakia is my next opponent. He’s 26-1 (15KO) and only loss came in a challenge for the WBA Light Heavyweight world title in America.

“This bloke can box, can bang, and has got a good set of whiskers. At 6″1 he is going to try and keep me at the end of his reach. When the bell goes on the 19th, it’s going to be on like Donkey Kong.

“A massive thank you to everyone for their incredible support and love I’ve been shown. I will make sure that I am ready to rumble and I’m flipping pumped to be back. Game on!”
