Linares admits Mitchell was more difficult than expected

WBC 06/06/2015

Jorge Linares says his battle royal with Kevin Mitchell at the 02 arena was H2SO4!

“It was war! People who said that this was my most toughest and most difficult fight… were quite right” Linares shudderingly commented to the Venezuelan media.

WBC lightweight Champion Jorge starred in one of the most entertaining bouts of this year, he was even knocked down, and damned hard in the 5th round, but got back up, weathered the storm and survived, to stop Mitchell in the tenth.

“The most important thing is that I was able to get up. In boxing anything can happen. But I was able to end it in the best way.

“When I was on the canvass I tried to stay calm because I still felt fine. I had to keep working on throwing powerful combinations, Right now, I throw hard punches but I am not constant. In the 5th round I understood he was not going to be defeated with just one punch.

“So I started to work on his cut, landing punches on his nose and eyebrow. I was intelligent so I was able to end the fight in the tenth. I was able to combine the punches.

Mitchell is switch-hitter. His hands are heavy. He was more difficult than I expected, he has my whole respect.”

Viz his next fight Jorge Linares commented he wants to be back in the ring in September, but for the moment he is only enjoying this triumph.
