Geale in for same punishment as Martinez against Cotto – McMillan

Argentinian Sergio ´Maravilla´Martinez was taller and with a longer reach, and while Australian Daniel Geale seems to have similar charcteristics. For Gavin McMillan, the Physical Trainer of WBC middleweight Champion Miguel Cotto, Geale will receive much of the same treatment that Martinez did.

McMillan, who works with fighters as Manny Pacquiao and Ruslan Provodnikov, highlighted the extraordinary work rate that Miguel Cotto has been achieving to reach peak shape for this first defence.

“It’s our third training camp”, McMillan commented. “Miguel came to us having already worked at home. He has made a tremendous amount of progress since his fight with Delvin Rodríguez. You will see a superb Miguel Cotto this June 6th. His physical condition is akin to someone of 25. Geale is in deep, deep trouble!

“I thing Geale is good boxer, but right now Miguel Cotto has an amazing Jab and his hooks to the body are formidable. That’s why I think the reach of Geale will not be harmful. He’ll be in great problems as soon Cotto Lands!”

Cotto is concluding his preparation at the Wild Card Gym in The foothills of Hollywood, and this Saturday he will travel along his team to New York.

The Puerto Rican fighter has a record of 39-4 and 32 KO´s and this is a voluntary defence of the WBC title that he conquered last June defeating Martinez by TKO in 10 rounds.

“In my opinion, Miguel is one of the greatest power punching boxers of today. If you add on that he is in great shape, you have the whole package. We will definitively come to the fight in a better shape than we did in Martinez´fight,” Gavin McMillan pledged.
