Rungvisai blasts out Salgado, claims WBC silver title

The 28 year-old, who held the coveted green strap from 2013 until being dethroned by current champion Carlos Cuadras in 2014, secured his seventh stoppage in a row since that defeat and a 31st overall in his 34 wins as a professional.

Srisaket was just too powerful for the younger Mexican and produced a classy combination in the fourth round to end the contest and push on to a forthcoming rematch with Cuadras later this year. Rungvisai was out-pointed by Cuadras when the pair first met after only eight rounds due to an accidental headbutt, but will get a second chance once the details of the return are ironed out.

Cuadras, 26, drew with Salgado himself in his maiden defense of the title after the encounter was stopped in the fourth round, whilst victories over Marvin Mabait and Luis Concepcion have kept the unbeaten record of ‘Principe’ intact.

A second Cuadras versus Rungvisai clash would be much-welcomed due to the ending of the first meeting and should be negotiated in the coming weeks.
