World Boxing Council President, Mauricio Sulaiman stated that Gennady Golovkin will step aside if WBC Champion Miguel Cotto and Mexican former Champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez agree to fight in the summer, and then he’ll then take on the winner.

Miguel has a prior commitment against Daniel Geale in June 6th that said….there are already some chats with Canelo´s team for arranging an agreement encompassing September or October.

The fight between Cotto and Canelo is a natural for avid boxing fans. This fight was mooted for last May, but negotiations failed. Now the are back on track.

Canelo defeated Kirkland on May 9th, and with this clear victory, he’s slap bang on the radar screen of WBC Champion Miguel Cotto

“It is a fight that’s practically settled. We are just waiting. Saul had a great victory, and now it’s my turn.

“After my fight and my victory we will sit down and talk. It is not the same fighting against James Kirkland or Erislandy Lara, than fighting against Miguel Cotto!”
