Burkinshaw v Mboyane heads to Spike TV on May 30

With current debate raging amongst boxing fans on the merits and value of pay-per-view shows, Dennis Hobson has announced his next promotion will be shown completely free on Spike TV (Channels: Sky 160, Freeview 31, Talk Talk 31, Freesat 141, BT TV 31).

The show, at Rotherham’s Magna Centre on May 30, will see Sheffield’s Ross Burkinshaw looking to move one step closer to a world title shot as he takes on South Africa’s Klaas Mboyane for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental bantamweight title. While chief-support comes in the shape of a Commonwealth featherweight belt eliminator between Barnsley’s Josh Wale and Welshman Dai Davies.

“When fans are already paying a monthly subscription they’re bound to feel aggrieved if they’re being asked to stump up again for a show they feel isn’t worthy of pay per view status,” explained Hobson. “So, I’m really pleased we’re giving fans the chance to watch our next show live and free on Spike TV.

“It’s a great show and the Magna Centre makes for a great atmosphere. Ross is in a tough fight with a very tricky customer, but he’s ranked highly by the WBO and IBF and maybe, just maybe, he’s one fight away from a world title contest. Ross is a ‘Cinderella Man’, he’s always in exciting fights and will take two to land one! He’s a great kid to work with and is improving all the time under the guidance of Ryan Rhodes.

“Wale against Davies is another great match-up. These two come to fight and it will be a real tear-up, no doubt at all. The rest of the bill is shaping up really well. Keep an eye out for local lad Waleed Din who is a very special talent, and Uzair Najib is exciting and on the comeback trail after his first defeat last time out. It really is going to be a terrific show.

“I’m really excited that Spike TV will be covering it live. It’s the first they’ll be doing with us and hopefully it will be the first of many because we’ve got some great future matches and title fights coming together. They’ll also be covering Amir Khan in his next fight, which is great. It’s going to be a great evening’s viewing for fight fans.”
