Makabu turns fight around, knocks Mchunu out in Durban

Mchunu, 27, was on top from early on until midway through the fight, banking rounds to take a healthy lead into the second half of the contest. From round seven though, the tide began to change as Mchunu tired and Makabu came into his own in the bout.

Makabu swung the momentum in his favour and had his best session in the tenth until a crushing combination put Mchunu to sleep in the eleventh round and handed the southpaw 19th career victory from 20 outings.

Having been caught cold on his pro debut, Makabu has since stopped all but one of his opponents, eleven in the first three rounds, and stands on the verge of claiming a world title shot in the very near future.

If an opportunity against one of the bigger names doesn’t present itself soon, there is always the fall back option of a rematch with Mchunu after the pair put on an entertaining displa to enhance their respective reputations.
