Kovalev wants HBO clash, brands Stevenson a chicken

The ‘Krusher’ made some bold statements via his Twitter account despite pulling out of purse bids stipulated by the World Boxing Council in April as TV networks continue to play a part in bringing both champions together for a massive unification.

Kovalev fights on HBO, whilst Stevenson is signed with Showtime, although it seems that in holding the WBA, WBO and IBF belts – the Russian and his promoters Main Events are adamant that any potential bout should be on Kovalev’s terms.

“Stevenson, let’s fight for all four belts on HBO! Come on, don’t be scared. I am not going to punch you hard. Be a real man,” said Kovalev, before adding: “Run, Adonis, run!” in homage to the classic movie Forrest Gump along with some chickens for good measure.

Right now, there is a considerable stumbling block in the way, even though both fighters continue to make their desire to clash public, and the fight fans can only hope that a deal can be reached before the contest goes off the boil.

The pair are set to defend their belts against alternative opposition in the coming months as Kovalev meets Nadjib Mohammedi in June and Stevenson looks likely to face Isaac Chilemba over the summer, but if both come through their respective mandatories, the call will be even louder to finally reach an agreement.
