Heavyweight Denis Boytsov in serious condition following incident in Berlin

German media source Bild are stating that Boytsov was drunk when he was discovered with head injuries near to Bismarckstraße Station last week and immediately taken to hospital in Berlin where the 29 year-old remains in a bad way.

WBN contacted Kalle Sauerland regarding the incident and the promoter has confirmed that Boytsov’s ‘is in a very serious situation’ amidst early suggestions that the Russian’s ring career may be over as he fights for his life in intensive care.

Boytsov had been one fight away from challenging Wladimir Klitschko for the top division crown when surprisingly beaten by Australian Alex Leapai in November 2013 but has since come back with three straight victories. The most recent of those came against Irineu Costa Junior last March when Boytsov stopped the Brazilian in just two rounds to record his 27th knockout from 37 wins in Rostock.

At the moment, reports are still sketchy as to what actually occurred prior to Boytsov being treated, although the whole of the boxing community are pulling for the heavy-hitter to make a complete recovery.

Boxing has taken some big knocks over recent times with the terrible injuries suffered by Magomed Abdusalamov in 2013 and the tragic death of young Australian fighter Brayd Smith earlier this year.
