SMS Promotions boss Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson is set to instigate the re-integration of trainer Ann Wolfe back into James Kirkland’s team after watching his fighter suffer a damaging defeat on Saturday night.
Kirkland, 31, was dropped in the first round by Canelo Alvarez before being wiped out with a smashing right in the third, the second time the ‘Mandingo Warrior’ has suffered the fate when Wolfe has been absent from his camp.
Despite the setback, Jackson still had praise for Kirkand’s spirit and willingness to trade with the Mexican superstar.
“I’m proud of him, he’s a true warrior and I’m going to get him back with Ann Wolfe,” said Jackson.
Initially, Kirkland had said there may have been a chance that he could have continued which was surprising considering the manner of the knockout, although once the dust settled on the contest the Texan was rather more pragmatic.
“I didn’t know I was knocked out,” said Kirkland. “I had him trapped and hurt in the corner in the first round but he escaped, I had him hurt in the second also.
“He’s a great champion, I’m proud that I was able to compete in such a terrific event, and I hope to fight him again someday. I’m a warrior, I’ll be back,” he added.
With a record of 32-2, Kirkland still has plenty to offer the division and just needs to get back to being busy following some troubles outside of the ring.
