MayPac predictions: UK Fighter’s edition (Part IV)

Personalities from the whole spectrum of the sport have given their input into the poll as we count down the days to the most highly anticipated fight of this generation when two of the best ever collide to finally decide the pound for pound king.

In this edition, the final batch of UK fighters give their opinion.

WBC and WBA welterweight champion Mayweather, 38, and 36 year-old WBO title holder Pacquiao lay it all on the line in a $250m blockbuster match-up and below are some of the views given by those from the boxing fraternity.

Luke Watkins – Mayweather beats Pacman for me on points as Mayweather hasn’t stopped anyone for a while, but has still proven time and time again when he has to. Even when he fights the same man again he makes significant adjustments whereas Pacman isn’t that guy who does that. His fights with Marquez have shown this. Mayweather is the best at making adjustments especially during a fight.

Tommy Langford – My prediction is that Mayweather is going to win on points. He’s just shown that he can do it against anybody. Pac makes mistakes and Mayweather doesn’t. He’ll do a box and move job on him. He’ll likely be pushed a bit more than usual, but he’ll find a way to overcome it.

Sid El Harrak – Mayweather by late stoppage or UD.

Wayne Reed – They both win because they’re businessmen, not fighters! 1000 tickets to the public that’s a total joke. Without the fans there’s no boxing and they should be ashamed! Mayweather will win though.

Danny Cassius Connor – Mayweather to win by KO 9-12.

Ashley Theophane – It is a historic training camp. Biggest fight ever. I’m the only Brit that’s part of Floyds team. What I’m doing is major. I get to see Floyd day in day out. I get to see and hear all the behind the scenes stuff. I’m privileged to be here. Floyd is training hard and looking good. Motivating and inspiring to watch this man work. It’s helped me to step my own game up.

The fight is worth 300/400 million dollars so the fight is being made at the right time. If the fight happened years ago it wouldn’t be worth half as much as it is. So this fight is great business and great for the sport. Floyd wins it’s just how. I will go for a wide points win, but I won’t be surprised if Floyd got the knockout win. There’s no way that Manny wins. Anyone that knows boxing realises this. I don’t know if there will be a rematch. I know Floyd is fighting on September 12th, his last fight on his contract. We will have to wait and see.

Matt Mainwaring – Mayweather wins on points.

Tony Dodson – Mayweather by late stoppage or points, it won’t even be close!

Prince Arron – I would love Pacman to win, but I can see its got Mayweather written all over it. I reckon everything is going to be all in his favour. My heart says Pacman, but my head says Mayweather. Either way I see a pretty boring fight.

JJ Metcalfe – I’ll have to go Mayweather to win first few rounds, then it will be give or take then in the fourth and fifth rounds but then it will be mostly one-sided.

Thomas Stalker – Mayweather points.

Andreas Evangelou – Mayweather on points.

Conor Benn – Mayweather of course. Technique will win him the fight, but Pacman might catch him with a good one due to his speed. Then again, once you get knocked out like Pacman did, you never come back the same.

Liam Desmond – I think Mayweather is going to win on a points decision, but I want Pacquiao to win because he’s the people’s boxer. I love his style, I think he’s going to cause Mayweather a lot of problems and if there is a knockout win then it will more likely be from Pacquiao. Realistically I think it’ll Mayweather on points but not by a clear margin as he’s a defensive machine.

Matt Marsh – I think Mayweather will win, he’ll do what he’s got to do which will be just enough to win each round. He’ll tuck up in the first half of the round and pick him off and then come on hard towards the end and just nick each round. If anyone’s gonna beat Mayweather than it’ll be Pac, but he needs to use his speed and his feet.

Lloyd Ellett – If I had to put my house on it then I’d say Mayweather. I think Pacquiao will come out throwing loads of shots, but Mayweather will be too slippery for him and counter with the right hand all the way through. I can’t see him stopping Pacquiao as he won’t want to take the risk and he hasn’t got that one shot power. Plus, he’s not willing to put the shots together like he did when he was younger and he just wants to coast to the win in every fight.

Darrel Church – I hope Pacman wins and I can’t wait to watch it. I’m sitting on the fence I’m afraid as I really can’t call it, but I would be over the moon for Pacman if he wins!

Edward Leach – In all honesty, I really want Manny Pac to win, but I do believe that Mayweather will beat him simply because of his range and style. I think that he will make things very difficult for Pacman but I hope that Manny gives him a good fight. I’ve been waiting a long time for this fight, I’m like a kid in a sweet shop waiting to witness this.

Jerome ‘Wipeout’ Wilson – May win by KO within nine rounds. He will get a hard time at the beginning, then will adapt to find opening to pick him off as PAC applies the pressure. PAC has luck at first and I wouldn’t be surprised if PAC man puts him down early. Then May comes back strong. Both styles will clash in the biggest fight of their career, but it will make for an exciting fight for as long as it lasts. If it goes to the cards. I say DRAW.

Paul McCloskey – I think Mayweather will win an absorbing battle. I hope it lives up to the hype surrounding it, but I wish it happened four or five years ago.

Ryan Rhodes – I think it will be a split decision to Mayweather or maybe a draw, but I think it will be so close.

Robert Lloyd-Taylor – I think it’s a Money win. Mayweather will not be running like most are thinking, instead he will take it to Pacman and win on points or late stoppage.
