MayPac predictions: Manager’s edition (Part II)

Personalities from the whole spectrum of the sport have given their input into the poll as we count down the days to the most highly anticipated fight of this generation when two of the best ever collide to finally decide the pound for pound king.

In this edition, boxing managers give their views.

WBC and WBA welterweight champion Mayweather, 38, and 36 year-old WBO title holder Pacquiao lay it all on the line in a $250m blockbuster match-up and below are some of the views given by those from the boxing fraternity.

Paul Speak – My prediction is that Mayweather will win. It’s going to be interesting in the early rounds, but I think Floyd’s defence will see him through to the latter rounds where he takes over to win the fight on points or even a late stoppage.

Steven Feder – I’ve been around Manny and Freddie for the past eight years and for the past five all anyone ever talked about was will it happen or won’t it. Well, here it is. Both of these fighters are elite. They are in a different class than any of the opponents they have faced previously.

Here is my breakdown:

Manny is quicker and can come at you from both sides. He has some of the fastest feet in the game. Floyd is fast, no doubt, but he has never faced anyone who was close to his own speed. Manny is aggressive, sometimes too aggressive. Floyd does not do well with these types. Maidana gave Floyd trouble in the early rounds on his pure aggressive style, but Maidana could not keep up the pressure for 12 rounds, Manny easily can. Floyd was completely flustered by Maidana in those early rounds. Watch the fight again. Manny has a power in both hands, his left is lethal. Floyd has a very tricky right hand, and equal power in his left and Manny will have to watch out for that sneaky right. Power for power I give it to Manny. I know Floyd is bigger, much bigger, just remember, Cotto, Margarita, Shane, Oscar, all bigger. Big to Manny is not a factor. Fast and power is to Floyd. That said, if Manny doesn’t go after Floyd, Floyd will win on points. If Manny pressures Floyd to exchange, Manny wins this fight and shocks the world. Either way it’s going to be a great fight. Manny by split decision.

Vadim Kornilov: I think it is a 50/50 fight, but Manny has more power, speed, and an aggressive style to knock Mayweather out.

Sebastian Contursi: I also have Mayweather winning but TKO 8.

Julio Gudino – I feel that Mayweather has the edge, he’s taller with a longer reach and his defense is impeccable. I think he will BOX and USE the entire ring to stay away (RUN) from Pacquiao’s relentless attack. However, if Pacquiao can keep his attack strong, consistent and connect his combinations. He CAN Knockout Mayweather out. Mayweather has struggled a little in his last 2 fights and seems to be willing to BRAWL a little more than normal. If he does that, it will be his demise against Pacquiao.

Chris Ganescu – Mayweather by UD.

George Gallegos – Mayweather is a master boxer and defensive wizard, but he usually takes the first half of the fight to figure out his opponent and neutralize him. Pacquaio’s speed and movement is going to tough to figure out so I think Pacquiao is not only going to win the first half of the fight but I think he’ll land enough punches to steal a few of the later rounds to win the fight 7 rounds to 5.

Donna Keegan Avery – I believe in MANNY PACQUIAO and Freddie Roach. Good will triumph over evil. Strength and speed and dedication to his causes, Manny will take Mayweather! He’s not in it for himself as you can see how much he donates, trying to spread the wealth to help people… True HERO!

Steve Tannenbaum – I’m going out on the limb here and predicting a majority draw with two judges scoring the fight even and the third judge voting in favor of Mayweather by three points. This is based on my feeling of the potential politics involved in the nature of this event. Pacquiao will look like the winner to most observers, but the judges will save Mayweather. If Mayweather loses the bout in any fashion, whether he is knocked out early or loses a wide decision, he will be afforded an immediate rematch probably sometime in September. However, Pacquiao will only get an immediate rematch if he lasts the distance and is competitive. If he gets stopped early there will be no rematch. Boxing politics rules here with this bout!
