MayPac predictions: US Fighter’s edition (Part II)

Personalities from the whole spectrum of the sport have given their input into the poll as we count down the days to the most highly anticipated fight of this generation when two of the best ever collide to finally decide the pound for pound king.

In this edition, United States fighters past and present predict the outcome.

WBC and WBA welterweight champion Mayweather, 38, and 36 year-old WBO title holder Pacquiao lay it all on the line in a $250m blockbuster match-up and below are some of the views given by those from the boxing fraternity.

Bryan Vera – Pacman by late KO. It’s the only way he will win, but I think it could happen.

Karim Mayfield – People ask me ‘who will win in the Maypac fight?’ And I say Vegas! – that’s who will win. I see the fight being a draw, because there is no way the powers that be won’t let it be at least two fights of this magnitude in “Fistory.” Simply too much money to pass up when you have the ability to make controversial decisions.

Derrick Gainer – I like Mayweather by TKO in the 8th round.

Ray Oliveira – I see Mayweather winning the fight easy. I don’t think Pacquiao can hold up to him and there’s no catch weight. The only hard lefty to fight is one that moves, and an easy one is one that comes at you which is what Pacquiao does.

Harold Weston – Pacquiao W SD over Mayweather. Mayweather will fight cautiously and will not take chances toe to toe with Pacquiao, but Pacquiao should outbox him and will deserve the decision. But you never know the politics with the judges here.

Tommy Karpency – I like Mayweather via UD. I can see him consistently landing counter rights and check hooks when Manny attempts to jump in.

Gerry Cooney – Mayweather W12 Pacquiao.

Rashad Holloway – Manny by UD or Draw.

Thomas ‘Cornflake’ LaManna – Mayweather UD. 10-2 or 9-3 at worst.

Carlos Molina (lightweight) – I think Mayweather will in a tough fight, but he will hold and move his way to victory.

Rod Salka – Mayweather by decision. Competitive and slower early, but picking up in the middle rounds. Mayweather will run Pac into shots throughout. Manny will be the flashier fighter throwing combinations, whilst Mayweather will throw less and probably land more – obviously at a higher rate.

Donovan George – Pacquiao late TKO.

Mark “the Hammer” Weinman – Pacquiao WSD Mayweather.

Peter Manfredo Jr – It’s tough to call. My Heart is with Pacquiao and it’s hard to bet against Roach. I love Freddie. I know he’ll have hm ready and in great shape. He’s going to pressure Mayweather and hit him with shots he’s never been hit with. On the other side, Mayweather is one of the best ever. Because he’s very talented, plus very smart. Timing is everything and five years ago when Pacquiao was blowing people out, it would have been an easier decision. But like I said timing is everything. If I would bet my money it’s on Money Mayweather.

I love the Roach-Fortune combo. That’s the combo I had when I was at my best in California for the second Mora fight, Pemberton Fight, and Spina Fight. I was always sharp, strong and Accurate.
