MayPac predictions: Champions edition (Part II)

Personalities from the whole spectrum of the sport have given their input into the poll as we count down the days to the most highly anticipated fight of this generation when two of the best ever collide to finally decide the pound for pound king.

In this edition, more world champions past and present air their views.

WBC and WBA welterweight champion Mayweather, 38, and 36 year-old WBO title holder Pacquiao lay it all on the line in a $250m blockbuster match-up and below are some of the views given by those from the boxing fraternity.

Marcos Maidana – Mayweather is too smart. I don’t take anything away from Pacquiao as he has been also one of the best in recent years, but I think Floyd will out-smart him. It’s vert difficult to land more than one single solid punch on Floyd. They are still the best out there so that’s guarantees a great fight. I can see so much tension in the ring that night.

Anthony Mundine – Think Floyd will get job done, but Manny will push the fight. Manny will try outwork him, Floyd will counter him, but you never know as it’s boxing.

Lucian Bute – In my opinion Pacquiao wins a UD.

DeMarcus Corley – If not stoppage by the 10th, twelve round unanimous decision for FLOYD!

Glen Johnson – Mayweather will win the fight by a unanimous decision.

Argenis Mendez – I think it will be a very interesting fight. If the fight had been three years ago it would be easier to give to Floyd, although much as he is the favorite, Floyd looked a little old in his last fight. The difference with Manny is he is fast and can punch, but my favorite is Floyd.

Kiko Martinez – A win for Mayweather.

Celestine Caballero – I predict Floyd wins and hopefully an excellent fight for the connoisseur boxing public.

Vivian Harris – It’s going to be a good chess match, but I give Mayweather the edge because of his timing. He is also patient and takes his time – Pacquiao don’t.

Billy Dib – I like Mayweather by decision in a very competitive fight.

Jan Zavec – I can only see Mayweather Jr. winning this bout. I think Pacquiao doesn’t have a real possibility of winning as Mayweather for me is the only truly literate (in terms of boxing skills) fighter on this planet. Manny is a great fighter in terms of personality and his way of life, so I’d surely want him to win more, but I think he can’t beat Floyd.

Ruslan Provodnikov – I will be rooting for my friend Manny! I will be present at the fight to give Manny all the support. I know he can win this fight!

Vyacheslav Senchenko – May 2 I am confident that Pacman can win. I knw him personally and he has an absolute chance of winning.

Paul ‘Silky’ Jones – Mayweather is lightning fast and throws inside the line of fire. Pacquiao is fast, but throws looping shots on the outside so he’s going to get picked off or run onto shots. Floyd wins with his best performance ever. The southpaw stance will work against Manny, not Floyd and because of this the yanks are great at adjustments.

Raul Marquez – I think first four or five rounds will be very exciting and close, but the second half of the fight Floyd figures Manny out and clearly outboxes him. 12 UD Floyd. Manny will be running into straight right leads and lefts hooks from Floyd. Floyd’s jab is the key like a radar to set up his combos.

Saoul Mamby – Mayweather W12. Pacquiao is very strong and punches hard, but Mayweather is smart and smart beats strong all the time.

Vito Antuofermo – Mayweather on points.

Lonnie Bradley – Mayweather TKO10 over Pacquiao

Chris Algieri – Styles make fights and I believe this is a style that suits Mayweather. He’s the smartest fighter in the game and he will be able to pick up on certain flaws and exploit them. Manny is going to make him work in there and I believe the first few rounds are going to be very interesting. Manny is a different and smarter fighter than he was before the Marquez KO, but ultimately though I see Mayweather winning a decision.

Paulie Malignaggi – Mayweather 12DEC. I see Floyd winning on points after a tedious start. I think he starts to time Pacquaio’s rhythm and controls the second half of the fight. Wouldn’t be surprised if he gets late stoppage either.

Brandon Rios – I think it’s going to be a twelve round split decision. It’s not going to be an exciting fight even though everybody has been waiting for this fight. It should have happened a long time ago and it just depends who can keep to their gameplan. If Pacquiao still has that fire from when he was dominating the game, then Mayweather has a lot of problems.

I think it will be a close fight. I have Mayweather to win because 47 people have tried and all of them have lost. But who knows? I’m not really interesting in this fight. I just want to see if Pacquiao can take his ‘0’ or not. It could be a boring fight.

WBN MayPac partners Paddy Power are offering UK and Ireland punters a massive 4/1 on Floyd Mayweather or 9/1 for Manny Pacquiao to win if you sign up to Paddy Power here with your money back as a free bet if you lose.
